Quince

Brand relaunch, website, and 20th Anniversary opening

Context & Brief:

Quince is a three–Michelin-star restaurant in San Francisco, recognized for its commitment to craft, hospitality, and sustainability. In 2023, the restaurant underwent a major renovation coinciding with its 20th anniversary — a pivotal moment to refresh the brand, reintroduce the space to the public, and align its digital presence with the newly redesigned interior.

The brief was to relaunch Quince across digital, print, and physical environments in tandem with reopening. The work needed to honor the restaurant’s legacy while signaling a new chapter, coordinating a brand update, website launch, and high-profile anniversary communications under tight timelines — all while maintaining the clarity, restraint, and refinement expected of a three–Michelin-star institution.

Design System:

I led the visual direction for the rebrand, establishing a system designed to translate seamlessly across platforms while remaining understated and precise. The approach foregrounded architecture, materiality, and cuisine, allowing the space and craft to lead.

Key elements included:

  • A refined typographic hierarchy supporting editorial storytelling and clarity

  • Layout logic designed to highlight architecture, materials, and food

  • Image treatment guidelines ensuring cohesion across photography by multiple contributors

  • Flexible templates for opening and announcement communications across web and social platforms

The Challenge:

Website Relaunch
Debuted Quince’s 2023 website alongside the reopening, introducing the updated brand identity and renovated interior. I led art direction and design, shaping layout, pacing, and visual hierarchy in close collaboration with a developer. Photography from multiple contributors was integrated into a cohesive visual narrative aligned with the new space.

Opening & Announcement Content
To support the reopening, I designed visual templates and led art direction for announcement content across digital channels, including photography and video. These assets reinforced the refreshed identity while maintaining continuity with Quince’s established voice.

20th Anniversary Invitation & Event Map
The anniversary celebration was conceived as an open-format event encouraging guests to explore the newly renovated interior and exterior spaces. I designed the invitation and event map, drawing inspiration from a commissioned mural by French artist Galatée Martin — a defining feature of the refreshed dining room inspired by Quince’s farm, Fresh Run Farm in Bolinas.

The final piece functioned as both a practical guide and a commemorative keepsake, marking a significant milestone in the restaurant’s history.

Outcome:

  • Successful brand relaunch aligned with a major renovation and anniversary milestone

  • Cohesive visual system spanning website, digital communications, and physical event materials

  • Reinforced Quince’s identity as both timeless and forward-looking
